I couldn’t help wondering where some people were getting that cool “Welcome” application on their Fan Pages. However, I couldn’t find anything like it.

Eventually, I figured out that I was thinking about it wrong. There’s no such thing. But there is such a thing as a custom box, and boxes can be made into tabs. Furthermore, almost any tab can be made the default tab. So here are the steps to create your own Welcome tab and make it the first thing people see:

Add Static FBML to your Facebook page (That’s what lets you create a custom box)

- From your page, click “Edit Page”

- Under “More Applications” at the bottom, click “Browse More”

- In the “Search Apps” box, type “Static FBML”

- Click on the “Static FBML” app

- On the left, click “Add to my Page”

Create a box named “Welcome” and design it however you want using FBML (similar enough to HTML)

- Go back into “Edit Page”

- Find “Static FBML” and click “Edit”

- Change the Box Title to “Welcome”

- Add your FBML code

- Click “Save Changes”

Change the box to a tab

- Again, from the “Edit Page” screen

- Find your “Welcome” FBML app

- Click on “Application Settings”

- Next to “Box” click “remove”

- Next to “Tab” click “add”

- Click “Okay”

Make the new tab your default for your page

- This time, from the “View Page” screen (looking at your Fan Page)

- Click “Options” on the right

- Click “Settings”

- Change the “Default Landing Tab” to your new Welcome tab

That’s it. Feel free to ask questions in the comments.

One of the best marketing tools is the power of suggestion. Fast food managers know this. Why do you think “Would you like fries with that?” is such a popular phrase? You may really just want the burger but when asked, decide that the fries may not be so bad after all. There is another word for this–upselling. You come in just wanting one thing and you are upsold to buying more.

Having a good website is like having a guy with a headphones asking “Would you like fries with that?” 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Your customers may come to your site for the special promotion but they will look around and decide to get the fries and maybe even the fudge sundae, too!

So how do you get a great website? Hire a professional to do it. Email us and say you read this blog and get 20 percent off your window to the world!

The name sounds like a fun dance or exotic dish. But Joomla is an exciting technology for web developers and their clients. According to www.joomla.org, Joomla is:

“…software that keeps track of every piece of content on your Web site, much like your local public library keeps track of books and stores them. Content can be simple text, photos, music, video, documents, or just about anything you can think of.”

How does this benefit YOU? You can easily manage your website without having to spend hours reading manuals or taking online seminars. Your website will always be fresh and relevant. Plus, Joomla sites naturally have many aesthetic and functional features that would cost significantly more on traditional websites. Complex menus, breadcrumbs, rounded corners, RSS feeds, and member logins are all included in a default Joomla install, and need only be enabled and configured. This saves your designer a lot of time; hence it saves you a lot of money.

Joomla is not for the uninitiated designer, however. If you choose Joomla, you should pick a designer with specific Joomla experience. Joomla packs a lot of fancy features, but making it all work together and look good is a specialized skill. Synergiecast offers Joomla website design for our clients. Contact us today to begin yours!

Many business owners get excited to see their business online. But a small business website, no matter how eye catching it is, will bring in ZERO revenue if no one is seeing it. You have to make your website work for you. Here are some ideas that work!

Measure your traffic. Google Anayltics is the best way to do this. Hire an Internet marketing expert to help you gather and interpret this data.

Analyze how much of that traffic is resulting in sales. A lot of people may visit. How many stay long enough to purchase your product or service?

Do you understand SEO? Do you know what pay-per-click ads are? These tools can help drive traffic to your small business website.

As a small business you need to spend every dollar wisely. Find a small business marketing expert that is affordable and knowledgeable.
